I did a pick up order and ate in my car after a day at Lincoln park zoo. The burger was delicious, I really enjoyed the dijonaise sauce on it. They also had a thick piece of perfectly crispy iceberg lettuce that I love on a burger. I regret not getting any bacon on my burger, so I'll have to try that next time. The lemonade was pretty good, had a nice tartness without being mouth puckering. The cheese sauce to dip the fries in was very runny, so definitely not car friendly, but still very delicious. And the fries were great! Homemade French fries are always a home run. Next time I'll have to try a milkshake!
The small is super small and has limited which is frustrating because it gets super busy. The cashier is nice but it's more of a fast food place with quick turnaround. The burger is super good though and the fries or burger with the truffle sauce is the best and I highly recommend it. We also got the espresso martini classic shake and it was the best and I highly recommend that as well. I would definitely for back for the fries and truffle sauce and the shake.
This place has some of the best burgers, fries, and shakes I've ever had. The people were friendly and it's in a great alley spot, perfect for lunch, happy hours, and take out. The food was so good my teenager said he was "about to cry" and "this food may be evidence that God is real".
Went here on a rainy day with family- the seating is all outdoors, which wasn't clear at first, so we were a little disappointed by that. They offer gluten free buns and did a great job handling a gluten allergy. Burgers were very tasty but we did feel that with the limited menu and seating, the prices were a bit high.
This is the best burger in Chicago. Small Cheval serves one thing, and does it incredibly well: burgers and fries. There are some very limited options to specialize your order, like ordering a cheeseburger vs a hamburger, or ordering a single vs a double patty. But it's all burgers here, all the time. A burger from here is filling, but not so oversized that it's physically hard to eat. The cheese melts just so. The sauce adds to the overall flavor profile without being overwhelming. The fries are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It's all-around perfection. The wait times to pick up your order can be a bit long. There is no table side service. This location has a nice outdoor seating area with string lights that's perfect for a casual date or a hang with friends. If you have friends visiting from out of town, this is a good spot to take them to visit as it's unique to Chicago, very photo-friendly, and delicious. The outdoor area has shade in the summer and heat lamps in the cold months. It can get busy on the weekends, but tables turn over pretty quickly. You can bring your dog.
Probably the best burger in Chicago! (And I have been to Au Cheval yes). It's affordable, the patio is great, and the house style with lettuce and tomato adds a nice freshness. Fries reminded me of McDonald's but better. I really liked the cookies and cream milkshake too. Can't go wrong here!
Great food and ambiance with outdoor seating. Service is minimal as you order then pick it up and take it to sit down. Staff was friendly and explained the menu when ordering. Good selection of beers on hand and boozy shakes. Classic cheeseburger is a must and order a fry for the side. They have white cheddar or truffle cheese sauce to dip your drys and burger in for additional costs. One of the better smash burgers around and will definitely be back.
If you're in Old Town and haven't been to Au Cheval yet, you're seriously missing out. The food here is damn good--easily the best burger I've ever had. I decided to splurge on the Wagyu, and it was beyond worth it, especially with the truffle sauce. The flavor was just out of this world. The experience makes you wonder why anyone would bother with fast food when you can come here. Even the milkshakes are on another level--thick, creamy, and just delicious. And let's not forget the fries--perfectly seasoned and the best I've had in a long time. A big bonus for me was being able to get Sir Kensington condiments instead of the usual sugary stuff you find at other places. It's the little details that really elevate the experience. In short, Au Cheval is a must-visit. I'll definitely be coming back for more!
My husband and i were visiting chicago, and our my friend recommended this place to us! NO RAGRETSSS! would definitely love to be back here again. Not a huge fan of burgers & fries but this place just hit different! My husband couldn't believe it was actually eating them quick! you gotta get those garlic aioli sauce, they're ducking crack sauce for all i know! Put them in your burger, fries dipping, slurrrp'em! lol this place gets super busy and there's not much benches to seat on. very casual place, came here for lunch. 10/10 would recommend & would come back here again :)
An amazing place for a quick burger and fries. The root beer on tap is some of the best, crisp soda I've ever had. The service is a little slow but the ambiance with the outdoor sitting is perfect any day of the week. Getting your burger with home style is a must!
